I'm looking for a way to remove the voices from an MP3, I know the SBLive! cards have some effects that do a reasonably good job of this... unfortunately I don't have a SBLive! card :)

Is there a plugin for WinAMP maybe that can do this? Or a program I could get? It doesn't need to be perfect, just reasonable...

I doubt you will find anything that will do what you are asking it to do without severely distorting the sound of the file. There used to be plugins that attempted to remove vocals, but they also removed chunks of the music, and often times left parts of the vocals.

use the equalizer and drop all the mid frequencies.

that'll quiet down the vocals a bit, but won't get rid of them completely.

hope that'll help

Yea, and it also quiets down the midrange instruments, and makes the bass and ultra-high frequencies stand out way too much, IMHO. SoundForge has a "remove center material" preset in the Channel Converter, but in my experience it doesn't work very well with anything I've tried - the songs always end up sounding really weird, and usually a very small bit of vocals will be left. If that is any indication, it would be that if a professional expen$iv? audio editing application can't do a pasable job at it, a free Winamp plugin won't be much better.
