Remove thermal pad on Thermo Engine?

optimistic

Is it okay to remove the thermal pad on the Thermo Engine? I will apply Artic Silver II instead before setting on top of Duron 800. And is this the right way to apply thermal paste on an AMD CPU?

update: I scratched the bottom of the thermo engine...but this is okay right? since the artic silver will be coating the bottom of the heatsink -eliminating any gaps between the heatsink and the cpu? Right?

I would try to lap the scratch out for best preformance, yes its ok to take off the pad, and yes that is how you apply thermal paste to an AMD chip just make sure you dont get any where you dont want it that stuff is a beast to get off.

Don't take the pad of the thermoengine! The thermoengine's pad is one of the best. Results show the thermoengine has better temps with the pad than with Arctic silver.

Don't worry about the pad, just lap the heatsink, rub it down with some ethol alchohol, then apply the Arctic Silver 2 and enjoy! You wouldn't see a major difference either way, and I have never heard of a thermal pad outperforming Arctic Silver 2...but since I don't own a Thermo Engine, I wouldn't know about the performance of it's thermal pad. All I can tell you is that in most cases Arctic Silver will outperform it...
