I have several usb devices hooked up (mouse, joystick, game pad, printer, etc), and all was well until one day Windows XP randomly decided to put that "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in my tray. Little things like that bug me. I want to completely remove it (not just hide it). How do I do this?

Double click on it and it brings up a box with the list of USB hardware. The bottom checkbox says something like "Show the Add/Remove Hardware icon in the taskbar" Uncheck it and you're all set.

There's a checkbox to "display device components," but that doesn't take it out of the taskbar.
