Remove in email addresses

I've seen a lot of people lately with "REMOVE" in their email address and was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about it. Does it get rid of the "remove me from your spam list" or something?

It's a feature of this board, it's automatically inserted so spammers can't send their spam.

There are programs that will scan websites for e-mail addresses to add then to spam lists. Having the "remove" in there prevents these programs from getting our true addresses.
