it might have to do with the fact that it is a SATA drive (that is my assumption) and since SATA is hot-swappable, much like a thumbdrive, it will be there.

You should be able to right click on it, and go to the properties, from there you may be able to set it to not appear.

Buy a nonSATA or a non hot swappable hard drive if you do not like it :p

The only other way to make it go away is to hide inactive tray icons.
