hi,

i have a 12 gig hdd that's used on a fairly old pentium(it doesn't support hdd that's bigger than 8gig and the only way to get the hdd working is by using drive overlay) machine for a couple years already.. right now, i'm building a new machine and am wanting to use the 12gig hdd on my new machine.. since my new machine will support 12 gig, so i no longer need driver overlay anymore.. i was wondering will i lose all the data on the 12 gig hdd, if i remove drive overlay on that hdd? i don't want to format the hdd, if it's possible..

thx.. any suggestion is welcome.

Almost certainly. Back up the data and flush the drive.

You can remove the overlay from the drive and you wont lose data, but like Tiger said.
Backup , anything can happen

When you do go to remove the overlay, use the manufatures disc from there website to do it ie maxtor drive, get max blast, or wester digital drive get there datalife guard.
