The battery won't be overcharged - so that's not the problem.

The problem is heat. Li-ion batteries are very sensitive to heat, and suffer massively accelerated aging when their temperature is above 25 C (77 F). While a Li battery may have a useful 3 year life at 20 C, this may be only 6 months at 45 C.

If you are using your laptop for long periods on mains power, then the heat from the CPU, etc. will keep the battery warm - and it will age faster than if it had been kept cool.

This is also made worse because aging is accelerated by being kept fully charged - if you aren't going to be using the battery it should be left at 40% charge.

I've never heard that, what is the reason for this?
