Once again they saved the day and had a FOB keypad replacement ($5) to me in 3 days. GM's FOB's are notorious for the contacts wearing out sooner rather than later. A trip to the dealer would be $139 for a new FOB and $39 for programming it to the vehicle. No, I wanted other garage viewers who may be having remote issues to know about a cheap, reliable alternative to a trip to the stealership.

I've seen that trick in some auto forums and thought about doing it, what stopped me is the thought of a piece breaking free and shorting out something and ruining the FOB. For $5 I just got a replacement pad and I don't have to worry about that possibility.

Consider yourself lucky. Any Malibu, G6, HHR, Impala forum is riddled with posts about remote's keypads wearing out. Another issue is the battery holder breaking the solder connection to the PCB. The problems started around '04 model years. I still prefer the separate FOB vs the one's built into the car's keys. A new FOB can be had for around $20-25 + $25 to have it programmed to the vehicle.

2005 was a bad year... We've had to buy new membranes for both fobs in the first five years.

Yea, that's good stuff, I used a roll when I re-sealed my ducts, might be pricey to buy just to use on a FOB though. Some on the G6 forum used regular aluminum foil held in place by super-glue. I would trust that less as I can't see SG bonding all that well with something as non-porous as aluminum foil.

I have a question, what about a 95 FOB remote for a truck. I replaced the batteries and cleaned the remote and wiped the circuit board. But the signal to the truck is weak and basically not working. Is it the remote or is it something in the truck. Maybe a item needs to be replace so that the signal is stronger. Event when i stand near the truck the remote is not working at all. Its frustrating. Please advise thank you.

Yeah; knowing that I can get a replacement keyfob for $20 rather than $200 is a relief.

My car's barely worth $200.

$139 fob and $39 programming...I wish. Mazda wants $154 just for programming.. The proximity key/fob thing is another...I forget, $260?

Check area locksmith's, they know people are getting ass-raped at the dealerships and 2 around here offer the same services at a fraction of the dealer price. I finally brought my '05 Chevy in for the 3 re-calls that needed to be done, I asked them to check the tranny fluid level while they had it, I go to pick it up and the tech writers "no dipstick" on the work order. No shit Sherlock!, that's why I wanted it checked because I don't have a fucking lift in my garage!.
