I'm thinking of getting the iPhone 3G this summer when my current contract runs out, and was pondering whether to get 8GB or 16GB. Neither seem good enough as I want to carry my entire music collection in my iPhone.

Then I thought how amazing it would be if you could access your iTunes library on the move using the iPhone. Obviously the user experience wouldn't be that swish (unless Apple incorporated it themselves) but when you just *need* that song it'd be great to be able to get it.

In a nutshell, I want to see, browse and listen to my home iTunes library over 3G or Wi-Fi (i.e. Wi-Fi other than the network my home computer is on). Neat integration into 'iPod' on the iPhone would be awesome (but does iPhone even support shared libraries like iTunes does?), but a bare basic service which worked would also be really good.

In my mind an option would be have my iTunes accessible via an internet link but I'd have no idea how to do this.

There seems to be various useful services/ideas which initially seem viable but none really fulfil what I am looking for.

Things I have found so far:

Simplify Media - this is a fantastic free service which allows you to access iTunes libraries on any computer (PC/Mac) which I found and will certainly be using, but it requires the client to be installed on all computers so presumably won't work with iPhone.

Slingbox - with Slingplayer being developed for iPhone and the Slingbox introducing AppleTV support this could be a viable solution. But, I don't want to buy an Apple TV and a Slingbox!

'How to Share your music via iTunes on the Net - a useful looking guide but I haven't tried much of the fiddling round and I don't actually have an iPhone in hand. Again this is guide was primarily designed for a different purpose.

So, has anyone else tried streaming to their iPhone, or got any better ideas on how it might be done?

Cheers

I would wait till the SDK comes out next month, I have a feeling there will be a plethora of options that become available that are better than anything currently available.

Also is your home computer a PC or Mac? If its a PC, Orb works pretty well for the time being.

Yeah fingers crossed for someone to develop a program that does this.

Unfortunately my home computer is a Mac, but Orb looks like exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for.
