Remote Support Software

Anyone have comments on the various Remote Support programs available.. Such as GoToAssist, Teamviewer or Logmein?

I have some remote computers I'd like an easier way of supporting. I use UltraVNC right now, but the client is kinda buggy setting up on Win7, and I'd like a centralized list of all the computers I can connect to, rather than doing it manually. Plus I wouldn't mind some automatic NAT-T.

I think the TeamViewer Business edition would work best, since its a one time (lifetime) charge of $700.. The other services appear to be an on-going subscription fee.. I work for a very 'cheap' non-profit... so minimizing cost is important 😛

Also do any of these programs support WoL and how well does it work?

I use Logmein (always want chinese food when I see it) and it works great in win7. I also use Teamviewer but as the recipient.
 
TeamViewer provides the most features as compare to the others, and it is free for personal use.

ScreenConnect you can host yourself, and add an unlimited number of nodes to. You only pay for the number of concurrent sessions (between a tech and a node) that you'll need. Not nearly as many options as Logmein and the like, and no WoL capability, but you can install it on all workstations and servers in your org, and host it yourself, for $275. IMO it's better to use out of band management for servers and workstations if you really need the ability to get into the BIOS, install OS, power cycle, etc.

Logmein free is free though, so tough to beat that. 😀
 
I use LMI at work and it's pretty good although it does take 15+ minutes to get some customers to go to the site, accept the agreement and hit connect. Good god. Some people have 5+ toolbars installed in their browsers. lulz.
 
You can't beat Teamviewer for it being free and that it works pretty damn well. There's even an iOS app (maybe Android, too) that works great over 3G if needed.

I work at a help-desk and we use simple-help.com. It's pretty solid and I like the ability to remotely install a persistent and the file transfer built-in, but I'm not sure how that compares with other solutions. Persistents allow you connect without end-user intervention and you can even boot into safe mode and get connected back for further troubleshooting.
 
I took a look at a few of these tools recently (the results are on remote support tools list on a friends site).

For the individual support provider, Teamviewer is my favourite as the platform support is excellent and it works a treat (been using it a while to support customers, friends and family etc).

For larger support teams, Bomgar is awesome (it's what we went with in the end) as it combines the broad platform support with tight centralised security and reporting. It's a more expensive, but if providing support is a core piece of your business the concurrent pricing model isn't too burdensome.
