remote starter question

Have a 95 Rodeo with a factory keyless entry/alarm system. I'd like to pick up a remote starter for it without it affecting the factory alarm (it's distinct and I like the functionality). The factory alarm affects the ignition in that if it's not deactivated, the engine will not start. Can they work around this / is it possible ?

The way I picture it is the only way the remote starter would work is if it deactivates the factory alarm at the same time. Is this how they usually piggy back on factory alarms ?

Any recommendations ?

here are your options:

1. keep your factory alarm and get an "add on" starter that works off the remote you have now. Keep in mind that you probably get very little range out of your current remote.

2. get a remote starter and use it with your factory alarm. They can bypass your factory alarm (the starter will only bypass the alarm when the button on the remote is pushed.) This is not a bad option, but you will have 2 remotes, and some factory alarms tend to interfere with remote starters.

3. Get an alarm/remote start combo. This is your best bet. It will cost more, but you will have one remote, great range, and a real alarm.

Expect to pay anywhere from $99 plus the charge to bypass your alarm for the add on starter, $149 plus install for the stand alone, and between $300-$400 total for the combo.
