A client of mine is looking to remotely access their network and work on AutoCAD files from home.

What is the best remote access solution in this case? The users have regular high speed Internet access at home and the office has a business DSL line.

I'd imagine VPN would be horribly slow as these CAD drawings are very large. Any ideas? LogMeIn.com would work I'm sure but I think they really want something like a VPN connection.

Thanks.

Working with a VPN is the last choice when working with large files or databases.

Either use Remote Desktop or use a VPN to temporarily copy the files to the local computer and then re-save them to the server after they're done working. You can also sync directories across the VPN and have it sync the Autocad files automatically.

Just to let you know, depending on what they're doing in AutoCAD, remote desktop is going to SUCK. It's not optimized for graphics, and many people forget that.

I have taken a look into and have tested this software however: http://h20331.www2.hp.com/hpsu...86504-0-0-225-121.html

It works. You can even play a movie and have it come out decently over a WAN. The solution here is to only send "screen" data, just the bits. This makes everything faster, as there is no data actually being sent and so it is also much more secure. There may be other solutions similar to this, but at least give this a shot and see if it will work.
