Could you suggest to me a good remote computer controlling program (such as UltraVNC) that is extremely user friendly (on the server's end) where I won't have to worry about port fowarding.

I have seen like gotomypc software, and I am confused on how things can work without getting into the server side router and setting up port forwarding. Also working with firewalls when the server end is different for anyone.

Suggestions?

you dont necessarily need echoserver - echoserver is just their program that they want to sell you instead. Theres tutorials out there on how to use VNC with KaboodleProxy and getting it all setup

Any links to these tutorials you talk about? :)

I want to use UltraVNC or RealVNC (don't know the difference) and connect to this person to help him install some stuff on his computer, but he is behind a router of which he doesn't know the password to (nor knows what to do to port forward if he did) and he has that TrendMicro pc-cillen with firewall.

Yes I have heard of that! How does this play within the configuration?

Here's how I understand, and why it can be a sys admin's worst nightmare to have users installing it. Forgive my [mis]use of terminology.

Hamachi installs itself as another network interface. A user creates a password-protected group, which another user may join. When it detects a program from computer A attempting to connect to computer B, Hamachi on B punches a hole through the firewall/NAT for the appropriate port. Viola! Effective port forwarding, without messing around in the router.

Yes, I have used it, and found it extremely handy, especially when the people on the other end aren't technically inclined. Once they've logged in to your group, you should be able to RDC/VNC right into their machine, given you have the appropriate credentials.

So pretty easy setup? Install Hamachi on their computer, have them run UltraVNC server, and then get their public IP address, punch that into UltraVNC viewer on this end, and it should go through? Or do I need to do something with Hamachi on this end?

Each end needs a Hamachi client. When you join the same group, you'll see an IP address to connect to them with. Other than that, yes.

Tried this:

Installed Hamachi on both computers, started a group, connected from the other computer just fine. Both computers are connected to the same group and virtual VPN via Hamachi.

I started UltraVNC Server on the server computer running Windows XP Pro. I then started UltraVNC Viewer on this computer, of which I then typed in their Hamachi IP address, and instantly it says "Failed to connect to Server!" So I tried to connect via the server public IP address (behind NAT) of which it would sit for a good minute atleast trying to connect before coming back with "Failed to connect to Server!"

Any suggestions? Sounds like port forwarding is needed regardless.
