remote login problems ( away from home )

I can remote login fine on my lan using 192.x.x.x.x

I want to remote login when I away from home. So I setup a dyndns.org account. If I type the address I picked in my web browser it brings up my router login page. So I know dyndns is working.

Now I setup port forwarding on my router for port 3389 UDP. I checked to make sure its open with portchecker and it says it is forwarding fine.

Now when I type my dyndns address in remote login ( windows xp pro ) it doesn't work. Only works from my lan ( 192.x.x.x.x )

I even turned off my firewall on the computer and no luck.

any ideas?

I think you need to set up a "virtual server" in your router instead of port forwarding. AKA, set the destination computer to a static IP then map port 3389 to that IP on the router.

that's actually what I did. Under virtual servers I put down the computers ip ( 192.168.1.5 ) and put down port 3389 for UDP

Try logmein, it's web based so you don't have to worry about port forwarding or setting a static IP, very easy to use.

a vpn or a logmein solution would be more secure then poking holes in your router, hamachi is a good free choice.
