First off, an introduction to the system I am trying to replace:
The engineers need to share data with customers, so they convert the CAD files from AutoCad, etc. to tif files so that they are not editable. There are also Word and Excel files that need to be shared. The problem is that there are multiple customers involved:

Say someone at Ford wants to see the drawing, so they are given a password to access the server (more on that in a bit). They are allowed to see the indexed tif file, but not the shared Word file concerning the cost to produce the item at hand. In other words, certain users can search and see certain files.

To accomplish this, the company has purchased FindView, to the cost of thousands of dollars, only to find out that it does not OCR the tif files so that the text on the CAD drawings can be searched for, etc. It does, however, all for a nice login so that certain users can see certain files.

I am now set to fix this problem and do not have great resources (including time) to do it.

I have found that Google Desktop Search, along with ScanSoft's new plugin will OCR tif, jpeg, pdf, etc. and then display them in the search. This is exactly what I need! I then found DNKA, a front-end to Google Desktop Search that will allow users to login to search the files using Google Desktop Search. As I am with a business, the cost of use is $39.95 (a stark improvement over FindView).

The problem: I can not see any way to restrict the users to only search within certain files other than by restricting file types (and some customers need a multitude of file types). I already have all the files for certain users in seperate folders for ease of organization through FindView.

Any suggestions (preferably cheap!) would be greatly appreaciated!
