Remote File Server Setup

I have built a 130GB file server that I would like to use as a redundant backup system. I have 6 remote computers that I want to backup over the internet to this remote file server. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what hardware I will need (routers, vpn, etc.) and what software to run on the file server? Would standard IIS work? I am not too familiar with Active Directory, but would this be beneficial here? Thank you for your help.
