Remote Explorer is a program that allows you to connect to different computer anywhere, sort of like Symantec's PCAnywhere. It's free for 30 days, then you have to register for 30 bucks. The program itself is an executable file less than 1MB, and it works pretty cool. Go check it out: www.remoteexplorer.com

It doesn't seem like a hot deal to me (at least that's what I think). This program might be useful for some people though.

Generally when an item costs $30, the English-speaking world tends not to use the word "free" to describe said item.

Mixxen, can you use VNC to transfer file? I remember I can't do it the last time i used. Maybe they have new version with this feature?

No, you can't (you can transfer text via a clipboard though). Netmeeting 3.0 also allows PC remote control, plus you can transfer files back and forth (and that's also free).

Can't beat VNC's 900K size though :) Great for server administration. Plus the fact that it's web accessable, so you can just type in the IP address of your host machine + :5800 and you can control it through your browser.

There's even a version for Palm OS...which is WAY cool.

You can use PCAnywhere and specify the port in the interface in Version 10. You could do it in the older versions by editing the registry, but it seemed a bit flaky at times. VNC also lets you specify the port or you could use another remote program called PCDuo. Smaller than PCAnywhere, but much faster. And PCDuo allows you to talk to the user while remoted in to the other pc.

VNC is great, but you can't transfer a file. Just set up an ftp server and when you forget to put something on it, VNC in and move it to your ftp.

tomcat,

I just installed Radmin over here and it's GREAT! Thank you! I have my laptop and PC networked (soon to be over the air with a linksys wireless 11mbit network) and I always wanted to be able to access the email on the main PC when I needed to retrieve something, without actually having to walk over to the machine. This is GREAT! Vnc was always way too slow, although I did like the fact that you could run it through Explorer, whereas this needs to have a client installed.

I don't mean to crap on your thread, but this is NO deal. Almost every piece of software on the market has a free trial period...it's called a demo. This would be a deal if after the 30 days it was still free. Sorry.

MODS PLEASE LOCK THIS ONE!!!!!

Please change your topic. This is HARDLY free, in fact it is no different than the tens of thousands of pieces of shareware out there. Should we start posting a separate topic for every program available on download.com?

I really hope you aren't the author of Remote Explorer plugging his/her own proggie.

No question here. Use www.gotomypc.com

You can use all firewalls without special configuration, port 80, port 8200, port 443 (I believe), etc. File transfers, guest features, chat, full screen, etc. Check it out and if you have any questions ask me.

<< windows netmeeting does all of this also people, and that is already on your pc.... >>

Netmeeting is outdated and has some major bugs. I don't think MS is even developing it anymore!

bigbigsavings,

Glad to be of service. Remote Administrator is considerably faster than PC Anywhere and VNC. I have not tried the proxy software mentioned above, but it would be interesting to see a comparison, perhaps I'll give it a shot some time. Overall I am extremely pleased with Remote Administrator.. there are 2 features which I would like added, dual monitor support, and auto resolution adjustment if the computer you're connecting from has a lower resolution than the server (a la pc anywhere)

If speed is what you are looking for, and you are in a Win2k environment...

NOTHING beats Terminal Services in administrative mode. I regularly run mIRC and other file / chat utils from work on my server at home. (IRC is firewalled, but not TS here at work ;) ) One problem though, I have not found out how to connect to the active desktop.
