Remote Desktop

Ideally, I'd like to use my laptop as a remote control for my desktop whenever I'm watching DVD's on my HDTV, which is hooked up to my desktop. I tried running the Remote Desktop Wizard, and it couldn't find my desktop on my workgroup (it asks for a domain). Obviously, I'm a networking novice, so any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Absolutely, as long as you are still on the network. Just enable it on both computers, set permissions and users and its done. However beware if someone were to get into your network they would have a very easy time getting into the computer.

Make sure that both computers have it enabled and both are in the same workgroup. Like if one computers workgroup is "BOB" make sure the other computers workgroup is "BOB".
