Remote Desktop XP32 - Direct X Issue?

bob4432

the host is a 32bit xp pro machine, the client is a 32bit xp pro machine. the software is surfcam velocity 4 (cam).

when sitting at the machine, no issues. when connecting in via rdp, there is a direct x issue that i can't figure out. all drivers are up to date, the machine also has solidworks on it and that works fine but surfcam will not work.

anybody have any clue or have had an issue w/ rdp connection via a direct x issue?

again, everything is up to date. please help, can't figure this one out 🙁

fwiw, i have used rdp for years and have used probably over a hundred programs via rdp w/ never an issue, this one is completely new to me.

What is the issue? Also, if you have RDP 7.0 they are starting to offload some aspects of the host to the client's GPU. The strange thing is that you have to be connecting to and from a windows 2008/7 device to gain these benefits.

the problem is that the program surfcam will not run under rdp because i guess it needs hardware acceleration to run at any speed. from what i understand, ultravnc works but rdp doesn't until win7.

anybody know if a new rdp setup client will be made for xp or is kind of dead to ms?

i haven't used vnc from any vendor in years - does it handle drives and the clipboard like rdp?

interesting progress - i put the program on a server2008 box and connected in w/ a win7 client - worked well. just to test it out, tried it w/ a xp pro machine as the client into the server2008 box and it worked to. why won't it work from xp pro to xp pro since the rdp would have to go to the lowest common denominator, so the rdp abilities of the rdp client on the xp pro machine. baffled...😵
