hi there...i use LogMeIn and i have been very impressed with their free remote desktop control software. they also have a LogMeIn Rescue product which is meant to offer remote support which would be PERFECT for me since i am constantly trying to solve my families computer woes.

is there anything like that which is easy to use and setup? where i could just send them a link and they could download a little piece of software so i could gain control?

i really rather not configure VNC, logmein or something of that nature on every single one of their pc's. not to mention i have family spread throughout the country.

any ideas like LogMeIn Rescue?

PS. Remote Assistance/Desktop has never been able to work for me. Always some router/firewall problems on their end.

as far as i know you'll have to have each client loaded w/ the appropriate software. as far as I know. - ever try Symantec pcAnywhere?

didn't notice the "free" request.. in that case I'd stick w/ logmein. it seems to work as well as any of them

Hamachi FTW!!!!!! Just make sure you get the 1.0xx beta and not the 0.99 release.

Remote Desktop works, but you have to set it up. You need to configure their router to point to their computer's IP address, or temporarily put their computer into the router's DMZ. You pick a port (in this case, 3389) and then route that port to the IP address of the computer. Most routers have an "Applications Support" or "Virtual Server" page to permit this.

On the XP side, XP Pro is required for the "full" experience (Request Assistance is available in XP Home, and works well too).
