What kind of technology are the top names out there using as far as remote desktop is concerned? In other words, logmein, gotomypc, etc. what technology are they using for their remote desktop/screen sharing system? Is it something proprietary, open source, or something available to purchase?

There are lots of different kinds of applications for remote desktop access. For example, Web meetings, tech support, or even remote administration. I don't think there is one software package that can do everything so to speak. In my day to day work I use VNC, Remote Desktop for Windows, and even VMWare Console for remote administration of VMware servers. Occasionally when we have to demo some software to clients we'll use Webex to share our screen.

I find VNC unusable for interactive work. I use Remote Desktop on Windows machines, and NX Server/Client on nix boxes.

I agree with VNC, it's my least favorite :(

I've been using VNC and RDP for ages but what else is out there? I see a lot of stuff companies out there and I want to know what technology they're using... I'd like to get something integrated into Outlook for allowing screen sharing between support and the employees.

I use the Remote Desktop (as others have stated) to control test boxes from my laptop.

Have not had any problems

I just use windows remote desktop like most others here it seems. Have used it almost every day for a couple of years now and have never seen a need to look for anything else.

I found fro help desk stuff ultra vnc works well for LAN connections with opened software firewall exceptions. Logme in free works well for internet or WAN connections. If I have control over the IP and firewall though, i generally just use the RDP built into windows 2003.

I use VNC most of the time. I like the ability to watch the session currently on the machine rather than opening a new one.

I also do use remote desktop often, its a little less laggy.
