Remote Desktop Software That runs in Windows...

I am looking to setup a file server PC and just stick it in a corner. No monitor, keyboard, or mouse.

So I need some remote desktop software that I can install on the PC and be able to control the PC from my macbook.

Any suggestions? Free would be nice 🙂

That remote desktop client is to for going from OS X to windows not the other way around. You can take control of the Windows machine from the OS X machine.

That's what the OP is asking for, controlling it from his macbook.

I think someone already mentioned Logmein.com. That's another good option, and it's free. I think they have a Mac client out now, features for the free version are a bit limited though.

Good luck!

Oh yea. Sorry about that. Microsoft does have a Remote Desktop Client but it is in Beta stage right now. You can try it out but with Logmein you'll be able to get to it from anywhere instead of on the network.

Thanks for the tips. I will check out the various options. I think I'd rather only be able to access it from inside the network, so maybe the Windows Remote Desktop is the way to go.

RDP works fine from anywhere on the Internet as long as you have port 3389 open on your router and forwarded to the target machine.
