Remote desktop setup

New to this, I want to connect remotely to a Windows 8 machine using Windows 7 Home (for sake of troubleshooting assume 8 us the same as 7, as I'm not seeing any differences).

In Windows 8, System Properties>Remote, I've added my Windows 8 user to users "Allow remote connections to this computer" is checked.

In Windows 7, I find the PC on the network and right-click to "Connect with Remote Desktop Connection."

I'm prompted that the certificate from Windows 8 PC is not trusted--continue? I click yes.

I'm prompted for username and PW. I enter Windows 8 username and password, click OK.

New window appears "Remote Desktop Connection," "Connecting to: PCName" "Configuring remote session..."

It hangs here, just does nothing.

What am I missing? Based on what I've done should this be working?

Possibly some sort of security settings in Windows 8. Using a remote app on my Android phone, I was able to force some action.

I entered the Windows 8 PC's IP address, user name, and password, port 3389. When I attempt to connect via Android phone, the Windows 8 PC goes to the user login screen.

You could also double check the firewall as well, i don't recall if on the client version (win7 /win 8) if it auto configures it properly

You can also try the Less Secure option as well (Allow connections from computers running any Remote Desktop) as a troubleshooting step, from the remote tab of the system properties

I made sure the remote boxes were checked to allow remote desktop through the firewall.

Although most troubleshooting guides have it in their screenshots, I do not see that "Allow connections from computers running any Remote Desktop" option.

I got connected by disabling the audio settings.

This is on a LAN. Now I'm trying to set it up so I can connect via the router. It is telling me I'm not allowed, so either an issue with the router or Windows 8 machine. I've enabled port forwarding via 3389 to the Windows 8 machine.

Are both computers i.e. Windows 7 and Windows 8 on same network? If yes you can try using Microsoft RDP tool in order to connect computers remotely. If on different LAN`s, you need to use various remote support services such as logmeinrescue, gosupportnow, GoToMyPC etc. in order to establish remote connection over internet.
