Remote Desktop Problem

I am having a problem where when I remote desktop connect to a new HP computer with a Dell LCD monitor, when I try to go logon locally, the monitor says "Can't use this display mode".

I figured that the LCD can only handle up to 1024x768 and the computer I used to connect to it is 1152x864, so I set Remote Desktop to only use 1024x768 as display but I get the same problem.

What can I do? I end up having to hard power off the computer because I can't see anything to shutdown properly.

Any ideas?

thanks,
Curtis

Hit the F8 key while booting the PC to get into safe mode. Log in, then change the resolution to 800x600 or whatever and reboot. That might help with your problem -- but since I'm not certain that I understand the problem I cannot be sure.

You might also be trying to send an incompatible refresh rate to the monitor. LCDs usually work best at 60hz, but will frequently also 'support' 70-75hz. If you're trying to send a faster refresh rate than 75hz, you may encounter the error message that you described.
