I am aware of Apple's solution Apple Remote Desktop 3,but it is not free.

Also microsoft has client but it is for another way around, to get access from OSX to PC computers running Windows... is there free software for remote accessing OSX from a PC?

OS X 10.5 Leopard has a VNC server built into the OS, you just have to enable it in the Sharing section of the Preferences.

For older versions just use ChickenOfTheVNC or something similar to get into the system.

This. ChickenOfTheVNC is awesome. I use it quite often to remote into my windows server running UltraVNC.

LogMeIn works great. Plus, it works cross platform so you can control a Mac from a Windows/Vista machine and vice versa. They even have a iPhone app although it is not free.

Screen redraws aren't the fastest but I haven't found that a deal breaker.

I would not recommend using VNC over the internet without tunneling it first though SSH. VNC is VERY insecure.

Yeah, I love LogMeIn (especially the ability to go cross-platform)
