Remote desktop on work laptop SUPER slow???

I have a desktop at home, and a laptop from work. My desktop and laptop both have a Cisco VPN client installed. On my desktop if I VPN into work and then remote desktop to a work desktop, it works fine. If I VPN on my laptop and then iuse remote desktop, it connects, but it so slow that it loses the connection. I have noticed the same type of behavior with UltraVNC, and outlook. Web browsing seems to act normal though! Anyone know what my problem might be?
