Ok I am trying to connect to my girlfriends computer while she is at her house and im at mine. I have her correcy ip address and screen name and password. When I enter in all this information I get this message. "This computer can't connect to the remote computer"

No firewalls are installed. I have a router at my house and she has one at her house. Windows firewall disabled. Can anyone please help I need to fix something on there for her its important she needs it asap.

Yes, as Jack said, you must forward port 3389 on the router to the IP address of the computer you want to connect to.
To add to Jack's reply, it will help to set a static IP address to the computer you want to connect to as well. If in Widows XP, get to the control panel and go to Network connections, click on Local Area Connection if using Ethernet(wired) or Wireless Network Connection. Go to the support tab and click on details. Leave this window of the IP addresses open, so that you can use this info to set up the staic IP address..

Now get back to the contol panel and right click the local area connection or wireless network conection and then click on properties. Next, click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP). Once in there set the IP, Subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS IP's to what you have in that details window opened earlier.
