Had a quick search for this, but couldn't find any results...

I'm trying to logon to my 2nd pc, which is the 'family' pc, at the same time as other users using XP Pro's remote desktop connection. The other PC has the same OS.

I get the error explained by microsoft here.

I need to have rdc access to the PC as the same time as my other family members are physically using that PC. How do I get round this? Is there any other software that allows me to do this?

Thanks for any help...

You can't get around this. Taken from your link: "Only one user can use a Windows XP Professional-based computer at a time, either by logging on to the console or by connecting remotely." Notice it says "Only one user." If you want to log on remotely while someone is at the console, XP Professional won't work. Try Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services or Windows Server 2003.

Supposedly at one point during the beta of SP2, multiple remote connections (or a remote and local connection) were enabled simultaneously. Various people are working on taking the DLL from the older beta version of SP2 and integrating it into the RTM SP2 (since the multiple connections feature was taken out before the final release).

Just a follow up, found out this should also work:
WinConnect
But it costs $300! :(

Guess it's time to find how much Windows Server 2003 costs...!

Thanks for the help guys ;)

Any reason why on that? I assume licensing dept decided it was against the terms...

or some such garbage. interesting that beta dll and reg patch enables it, thanks for link.

At one point there was a lot of hype about these "smart displays" that you could use hooked up to a computer, or removed as a wireless "tablet." For some reason - I never did figure out exactly how they'd implement the concept in practice - you'd need the ability to use the computer locally and via a remote desktop connection at the same time. Hence, SP2 had that feature for a while; however, when the smart display concept died out, so did the feature from the SP2-to-be. You're probably right about the licencing department thing, I doubt they wanted to give the users something they didn't "need" - something that might keep some of them from shelling out the bucks for Win2k3 Server if they really could use that feature. :(
