I used to be able to connect two Win7 systems via MS' Remote Desktop Connection.

Recently I installed VPN software from Private Internet Access onto the host system and after using this software to make a successful VPN connection, I now cannot connect to this host's Remote Desktop. The two systems are on the same LAN.

It seems like there should be some settings to change and make it work but I don't know what?

Okay, I just disabled Windows Firewall and regained Remote Desktop Connection. Does anyone know how to make an exception or ?? to get the Firewall back up but let Remote Desktop Connection work again?

If the devices are on the same LAN they should still be able to communicate with each other. Now you mentioned that when you disable the windows firewall that they devices are able to connect to each other. This would indicated that there is a setting in the windows firewall causing this to occur. If this is the case, this would be part of the local network configuration, which is beyond the scope of our service.

Can you clarify if you're trying to make a remote LAN-to-LAN connections while the VPN is connected? Or are you trying to remote into a device that is on another network? I'd highly recommend to contact support directly so we can look into this further and provide further clarification. Please contact us at https://privateinternetaccess.com for 24/7 Livechat support or email helpdesk@privateinternetaccess.com

We look forward to hearing from you,

^ It's two systems on the same LAN. The system in question is not high risk so for now I've just left windows firewall disabled on it. I've deprioritized fixing it until I get a few other things done, may consider contacting PIA at some point in the future.

Thanks.
