Remote desktop connect 'freezing' shortly after connection made

So one of the computers at my Dad's store got a nasty virus, we tried pretty much everything to get it off and couldn't. So I ended up reformatting the computer. This computer is at the front of the store and needs to connect to another computer in the back so the employees can do work in both places. However, after connecting the back via remote desktop, the application locks up and you can't do anything via remote desktop--the computer itself is working, though (both front and back). The entire chain of computers is connected via a LAN network, however the one thing I see different on the front computer from the rest, is that the front computer is in workgroup 'MSHOME' and the others are in the domain 'WilliamsEnterprisesInc.local'. I can't figure out how to get the front computer on that domain, I don't see any option to enter a domain when I click on properties for My Computer?

Any ideas?

I think you go to My Computer/Properties/Computer Name to join a domain, but I have no experience working domains.

are you using domains or workgroups sound like workgroups?
