Remote Controlled Helicopter

I remember some dude and his dad was flying an RC helicopter in a park years ago, and would like to get one (an RC plane thread in Hot Deals reminded me to post this).

How much would these usually cost? Are they easy to fly?

I really don't know much about RC helicopters; all I know is that I freaking want one.

From what I understand, RC helicopters are friggin' hard as hell to control. And they need 3, 4, or 5 channel radios IIRC. Either way, you're looking at some serious $$$ and a lot of time learning to fly it.

And no, they are not easy to fly. Start off small and cheap 'cause you will crash it. Not might, will. Several times.

I haven't checked in a long while, but it'll probably be around $1000.

Ouch 🙁. With that amount of money, I'll go buy myself an Athlon computer with a 17" monitory and a copy of MS Flight Simulator. Bahh.

Ya know what's the best toy? A 1/6th scale F14 Tomcat RC aircraft. Suckers are awesome! At full afterburner they'll do like 345mph. Awesome aircraft, but you have to be careful. They're line of sight only. So you have to be totally aware of where it's at and keep it in sight at all times.

Personally I'd put a much more powerful transmitter/reciever on it with full avionics, navigational cameras, and stuff so I could fly out like 20+ miles, swing it around and bring it back. 🙂

Now THAT would be awesome RC flying! hehe.
