Remote controling a computer via LAN - same Video Driver

Hi,
I'm hoping some can help me out with the following...
I have a Fast Ethernet LAN set up with a computer in
the basement that is dedicated to playing videos/movies
and broadcasting them to the cable system in my house
via a cable modulator. The problem is that I'd like to
control the basement computer from any other computer
on the LAN.
All computers have Win XP Professional and I've attempted
using XP's Remote Desktop, but a different video driver
is then loaded and the basement computer won't broadcast
properly.
Any thoughts on how to control the basement computer via
the LAN. I'd prefer not to use ATI's wireless remotes or
any other.

redbeard1, thanks for the tip. I actually "found" PC Anywhere would work since I posted. Still curious how it is different than XP's Remote Desktop...

At any rate, I'll give your suggestion a try.

Another Nice program is called DameWareNT. It lets you install remotly on the computer. Remote install only works on NT based machines. Its nice because it can give you lots of info about the machine without even having to remote control it.

 

[Confused]

Remote Desktop will make a connection to the PC, and "log on" as a seperate user session. On XP, this will cut out the display on the machine itself.

PCAnywhere, VNC, Remote Administrator (what I use) and other similar programs will not create another user "session", but will instead allow you to control the desktop that the PC is displaying at the time, much like what you want to do. I use Remote Administrator, and it is very useful, and works well over a LAN, and equally reasonably well over a dial-up connection!
