Just a wacky idea, but couldn't someone strap a tiny remote camera to a bunch of these guys and send them into the WTC rubble to look for survivors with no risk of losing anymore people?

In theory yes. I don't see how a cockroach (or any other insect of that size) could sustain the weight of a camera + microchip for long. Still an interesting story, however. It seems that this sort of biology and technology integration is becoming more prominent.
