remote control for $50.. wtf??

i bought a universal remote control for little less than $20 at bestbuy. but i only get the very basic functionality. so i call samsung, my tv manufacterer, and they say the replacement will be $45-50 + shipping. he even said that samsung tv's have problems with universal functionality remote controls, like not all functions being operational. i think they did it purposefully so we have to buy from they directly. they only thing i need is the menu function, i COULD press the button on my tv, its a hassle, so i guess im not gonna get the samsung control. i usually switch the brightness to normal during day, and mild during night.

yah, I can believe that. I fear the cost of my h/k remote if that thing ever gets damaged.

I bought a Radio Shack 15-2116 for $30 and it's been awesome.

Just wish it could control our DirecTIVO as well.

same thing here with my Sony Tivo SAT-60. I tried a One for All universal, but found out the Sony Tivo/DBS combo is an upgrade, so I have send the unit in. Not sure what I'm going to do - pay for shipping to get the universal upgraded or just buy a new Sony remote.

Seems to me it should. Who knows. I paid $100 for a RM-AV3000 and its money well spent for me Controls the DirecTIVO just fine

I have that same remote! Great investment. It does everything I need it too, especially after getting the JP1 cable and programming the macros exactly how I want them. I had to find something as a backup for my Pronto TSU2000.

I remember it was mentioned in this thread, where I first found out about the RS 15-2116.
