Can anybody recommend a remote starter for cars with stick shifts? The ones that have the capability to sense whether the car is in gear or not before cranking the car up? Most shops won't install starters on stick shift for liability issues, but others will.

I do understand the concern if the car is in gear and handbrake is not set, it may hit a car, building, or worse a person. But isn't there a starter out there with that sensing capability of whether the car's in gear or not?

Or will I have to settle for a security alarm only?

i'm sure they could rig it up to see if the brake is on, like hook it up to the light that even says your e-brake is on....i always leave my car in neutral, so it wouldn't matter....

I don't think there is an electronic signal from either the shifter or the tranny that tell what gear the car is in, except for reverse. So, you would hav to rig up seperate sensors, buttons or whatnot to the reverse gear (easiest as there is already a signal there for teh backup lights) and first gear (hardest I would think).

Hmm i see local ads for installation in manuals all the time. It's normally $100 more than automatic, but it's available.

There are kits that are made for manual cars. There is something similar to a turbo timer on the car. Search google and you'll find something.
