Is it ever cold up here in Nova Scotia today.

-14 C (7 F) outside right now.

I needed to go to the store so I pressed the little button on my key chain and 10 min later, I got into a nicely warmed up car.

I love my remote car starter.

In this thread you express your appreciation or dislike of remote car starters.

You can't possibly have warmed your car up by idling it for 10 minutes at 7F, that is unpossible. Everyone knows this.

my wife got that in her car and she never uses it
she parks in our garage anyway

and by "NA", i really mean "waffles"

I just get in and drive off. Granted, we haven't seen -17F so far this winter, but when it's in the teens, I still drive off. If there's snow, it's a different story.

I love my remote starter, it was awesome in the winter when I lived in PA and could warm up my car in the morning. It's awesome now that I live in south Florida because I get the AC going before I get into my car. Love it.

I dunno, I doubt I'd use it much even if my car came with one. It's never really too hot or too cold here that I can't just get in and go.

i have to go out and start it in -40, taking several tries... then hold the pedal down for a few minutes so it doesn't die. awesome.

Except when it is encased in a solid block of snow/ice. Then you either sit there until it starts to melt after the car warms up, or you spend 20 minutes with your snow/ice brush removing it all.

Garages and covered parking FTW.

Yeah, hasn't been too bad here so far. Its still not that big of a deal. I'd rather clean ice off my car than deal with cancer as my daily battle.

Nah, don't have one here. I looked into getting one installed a while back, but any engine with a carb (like my Caprice) is too much trouble. I'd rather just sit inside and read the newspaper while it warms up.

It's not just that it warms up the engine. It also turns on the defrosters, including the rear window one and the heated mirrors. So not only is my car warm when I leave, but the windows and mirrors are clear, too.

I voted no even though I don't have one any longer.

I did have one for many years though that was part of a high end aftermarket alarm system by Viper.

It was awesome while it worked but then things started to go down hill and it'd fail on a regular basis to start the car. When this would happen it'd trip the factory anti-theft systems because it thought the car was trying to be hotwired or something along those lines from what I could find out. So I'd then have to either do a combo of using my stock remote and factory key (had a chip in it) and I'd have to lock, and unlock my car two times in a row and then lock it again and then use the stock key to unlock the door and start it and that would reset it or I'd have to wait it out for 30 mins.

Took some time and research to figure out how to do that reset with the factory remote and the specific combo of events so for a good year every time this would happen I'd be suck wherever it happened for 30 mins.

In the end I just stopped using that feature since it was more of a PITA than it was worth.

Definitely...Up here in Anchorage, Alaska. it sure makes going to and leaving work so much easier. Now, if only, there was a way to clear off all the snow off my car...
