Remote Application Control

Hi,

I apologize if this message is a crosspost. Was wondering if it was
possible, and with what software, to remotely control an application
such as a Napster-type program, over a network. For example, having
the ability to launch the program on the server from a remote desktop,
use the program to select downloads, and then have the server be
independent from the remote computer and still continue downloads.
Will programs like Timbuktu or ControlIT fill these requirements? Any
help is greatly appreciated.

PCAnywhere will let you remote control other computers. There are various other programs, it looks like Timbuktu will let you as well.

Netmeeting will let you control the desktop remotely as well. If you are running Windows 2000 Server on the PC that you want to control, you can use Terminal Services.

If you're running WinXP, then "Remote Desktop" works quite well. Even over a 28.8k dial-up connect. It's really just the latest ver. of Terminal Services. Compared to Win2K Terminal Server, it adds remote audio and allows more than 256 colors. While PCAnywhere and Netmeeting will work, they are SO MUCH slower than Remote Desktop. If you need this to be a "FreeWare" solution, the you could use VNC Remote Control, but it's VERY SLOW on any ver of Windows.
