Reminiscing about Quest For Glory

Slow day at work so I was able to sit and think about how amazing the Quest for Glory games were (especially QFG1 and QFG4). We need more games like these dammit, and I'd pay good money for remakes! The writing was quite hilarious.

the golden years of Sierra Adventure games are done and will never come back.

There have been some bright spots in the click and explore realm but there just isn't a big enough appetite for them to really get a bunch of quality ones through the pipeline

I remember setting the hand cursor on that tree outside the apothecary's house and leaving a flashlight on the spacebar so he would climb it over and over, leaving and coming back to a hero with much better stats 😉

Those were some fun games for their time. I tried giving them a replay with DOSBox awhile ago.. just not as fun these days really, but make for good memories. 🙂

I liked Trial by Fire the best.

I actually played the game through SEVEN times in a row trying to get the Paladin ending. It turned out killing the griffin was what kept disqualifying me (I had no idea that was a factor, and in fact should not have been enough by itself to make me ineligible but there's a bug in the code). The seventh run through I finally let it live, and that awesome flaming sword was mine.

Best combat in the series too, IMHO.

The other games were all fantastic in their own way, there is so much awesome in QF4 but that has to be the buggiest piece of software I forced my way through. Neither the Windows 3.1 or DOS versions held together well enough for me to reliably complete it.

Anyway--yeah, absolutely fantastic classic series. Which reminds me, gotta play through the fan-made VGA remake of QFG2!

Trial By Fire was, in my opinion, one of the weaker QFG, mainly because I'm have little interest in the Arabian settings--still a great game though. I love QFG4 for its Eastern European mix of folklore and Lovecraft.

The link to that fan remake is pretty awesome, I may have to give that a shot. I hope the artist is not reading this post, but the art could use some improvements 😛

I liked 1 and 4 the best. Its a toss up between them. I probably played QFG2 the least, maybe completing it twice. I haven't finished the remake yet. The one thing I prefer in 1 and 4 over 2 and 5 is that in 1 and 4 I can play at my own timeline and I don't have to worry being someplace or doing something at a specific time in game. I've probably played 1, 4, 5, 3, and 2, the most in that order.

Ahhhh Necro!

I'll just leave this here for anyone interested. Adventure Game Downloads has updated versions of King's Quest I-III and Quest for Glory II for FREE!

I've played a couple of them and they were a great nostalgia-trip!

This thread reminded me that I need to check out their original (not free) game.

I still have original boxed copy of Hero's Quest stashed away, which is what it was known as before the lawsuit with the board game company.
