These are both great games despite all the teething problems T2 had. Certainly worth a look-see for free.

Belive me, I haven't fired up any games in quite a while. I'm in on the WoW beta and I rarely get to play it. :(

I owned both. Was a beta tester for Starsiege, so I got Tribes for free (and it turned out to be the bigger game). I then bought T2 and thought it absolutely blew. I loved the skiing part of Tribes

I've belonged to the same Tribes team for over 4 years now. Tribes (1) is still a great game that I play almost daily, but sadly there aren't a lot of active servers left. Thousands have already downloaded the free file though, and it's possible some server activity could go up.

Tribes 2 evokes a lot of mixed reviews, but in the final analysis it's patched very decently now and I still consider it a top team shooter.

For either game you will require a few additional map downloads, and for Tribes 1 a minimal amount of "scripts" are highly recommended. http://www.tribalwar.com is the top source for information and downloads, and I also recommend http://www.teamwarfare.com as a good source of simplified essential files downloads for either game, though registration is required for file access there.

Anyone here needing a little help regarding Tribes, or just wanting to join me on a server for some tips or training feel free to message me. I'm also found in tribes irc (irc.dynamix.com) in #wolf or #wayside almost every night :)

I agree that with Irrational Studios working on "Tribes Vengeance" it's looking to be a fantastic game, and either of these would be a good way to break the ice.

Thanks for the heads up. I was reading about this about a month ago and I couldn't remember when it was supposed to be released.

I enjoyed Tribes1, but I didn't have a rig good enough for T2 at the time, so I couldn't really play it.

Eh whats the difference? Do you watch tv shows? I don't so I do a lot of gaming, but I don't overdue it. The amount of time that a person watches those damn tv shows could be used for gaming. That's how I look at that subject anyway.

They should do this with all games after they have their 3-4 year run...it'll bring players back for at least a little while.

T2 took a lot of flak initially since the initial release was....er...kinda shoddy, but is actually a pretty fun game once they patched it 3,234 times. :p

Picked up my copy of CGW last night and now I have Tribes. Too bad I don't have a DVD drive on my computer yet.

Cool, once the insanity dies down I'll download T2 and check it out.

I own tribes 1, but I just couldn't ever really get the hang of it. I played it a lot but the flying and stuff just never got me...I couldn't master it like I do most FPS. I usually just picked the repair man job and went to work fixing generators.

It shouldn't be fun fixing generators in a game...but for some reason it always was. Maybe because after a long day of tweaking and fixing computers...it was nice to be able to fix a piece of complex machinery by shooting it with a laser. God knows I've wanted to shoot a lot of real things that were broken...and I didn't even expect it to fix them!

That's pretty much what I'd do as well. Fix stuff and lay booby-traps all over the place. :D
