And cartoons don't really benefit as much from HD IMO.

While I agree to an extent, I think its all in how the media is handled. People and real life objects have imperfections and other things that can all be shown more sharply with higher definition. However most cartoons are already done in vector drawings with hard-lined shadows, so indeed their isn't really *that* much to improve. It's simply increasing the number of pixels available for the same color :p

On the other hand, I for one saw an amazing difference between the DVD release of Utawarerumono and the Blu-Ray release. The HD release was so much sharper and much more detailed. Made me enjoy watching it all over again.
