I took the 7200 RPM Maxtor Drive out and i am going to try and add it to my Server that has a 5400 RPM Maxtor so i have 80GB Total and have a new Maxtor coming tomorrow for my other computer. Any problems in Mixing this 2 hard drives together? Its either Mix them up or Add the 7200 RMP drive to my DVD drive (and have it crawl)

Shouldn't be any problems at all. You're thinking about RAID, that's where 5400 and 7200 drives will have issues.

Pariah is right, if they are independent of one another (i.e. not in a RAID setup), there won't be any problems at all. You may notice one of them being faster than the other, but that's about it.

Mixing two hard drives of different size and/or speed causes a hyperspace implosion and should be attempted only while wearing a HRR-type protected suite. Do not operate any heavy equipment for up to 24 hours after performing the experiment. Report any indidents to the drive manufacturer immediately.

It depends on the array controller. I work with some SCSI RAID controllers that allow mixing of RPMs and drive size. If RPM speeds are mixed the faster ones spin at ther normal rate, and a small speed increase is seen. If drive sizes are mixed, it allows only the RAID space to be seen. So if I add a 18 gb to a 3 drive 9 gb RAID5, the drive is treated as a 9 gb. If though I ever replace the other 9 GB's with 18gb, the extra space does then become usable.

It's definitly nice to see recent array controllers not being as picky as some of the older ones.

I was wondering what happens when you mix ata33 with an ata100 on the same ide controller will the both run at ata33 or will they run at thier respective rates?

Assuming you're using a ATA66/ATA100 cable then yes they will run at thier respective rates.

You need to say that the other 10% of men are liars, otherwise your data sets could overlap, making 10% of those 90% liars, thus still making 10% of men non-masturbators :)
