One of my friends got beaten up last night. He was looking at Dodge pickups a few weeks ago, and asked the salesmen to try and find him a Dakota, 4X4, 5-speed, quad-cab, in green. The guy said he would do the search, but only if Bobby (my friend) bought it through his dealership. Also they had already paid some cash down on the truck when the guy said he would search for the car. After he found the car and arranged to have it delivered, all of a sudden the dealership changed their offer on Bobby's trade in - dropped it by like $5K. They have yet to return the down payment.
So Bobby says, I had a contract on the trade-in offer, you changed it, it's no longer binding. He goes to Grand Junction, finds a truck he likes, and buys it. Then he tries to go get his down payment back . . . Here's what happened.
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS ? The general manager of a local automobile dealership faces a misdemeanor assault charge for allegedly punching a man Monday afternoon in the dealership's parking lot.
John Leroy Centner was arrested about 2:30 p.m. and booked into the Routt County Jail.
Centner, 41, of Steamboat Springs, faces a charge of third-degree assault. He was advised of the charge Tuesday morning by 14th Judicial District Judge Joel S. Thompson.
Centner, who is president of Routt County Crimestoppers, was released on $750 bond. He told police he punched the man in self-defense after the man assaulted him by striking him in the chest with a truck door, according to an incident report.
The victim told police he went to the dealership to see an employee about a dispute over money the victim said the employee owes him. An argument ensued and Centner intervened, ordering the man to get off the property, records show.
The victim claims that as he was leaving, Centner ran into the truck door and then punched him, records show. Centner said the man hit him with the truck door.
The man left and drove to the Routt County Sheriff's Office to report the fight.
The man was bleeding from the left side of his face, the bridge of his nose and his right ear, records show.
Cetner is lying about Bobby hitting him with the door; Bobby's wife was sitting in the truck. When Bobby got in to leave, Cetner ran up and pushed on the door, slamming it on Bobby's leg. Bobby got out and said, "Do you want to hit me or something?" but didn't make any moves toward Cetner. So then he started wailing on Bobby. A couple of the car salesmen pulled him off.
