Remind me never to talk in class

During class I asked the professor a question. Most likely because I stutter he couldn't understand my question. Other students in the class did understand my question, however, and tried to explain it to him. This went on for what seemed like forever, until finally the professor gave an half-assed answer and basically told the rest of the class that I'm a moron (even though I received an A in another one of his classes). In non-reality I walked up to him and punched him in the face, but in reality I just took my books and walked out of the room. I suck. :(

I'm sorry to hear of your experience and to hear of your studder. However, I need to remind you and almost everyone else out there one thing:

Don't ask questions in class unless it is of critical importance to that particular class and it is relavant to most students in the class.

As a student I saw it happen in every class. Someone, somewhere asks a question that only benefits that one student (such as "why did I miss this problem on my exam?"), the professor cannot understand the question (moronic professor, foreign student/professor, and now lets add studdering to the list), and the whole class is wasted.

Basically, I'm saying this experience isn't limited to you.

Me smells a parody though.

It's not a parody. It's my life.

Do you keep a journal? If you do, I'd like to subscribe to it.

so if you don't understand a concept during the class, you should wait until its over to go up and ask the teacher to explain it better? that doesn't sound right to me.

this is why you only ask questions about the subject he/she is speaking about.

Hell no, ask the question if you don't understand it. Because chances are, there are other people in the class that also don't understand it, and are afraid to ask.

What i despise are the people that think they're teacher's pets... that they ask ALL questions, no matter how trivial it is... it's not because they don't understand the material, they just want the prof's attention or think they're overly bright, and have come up with a good question, but in fact are just idiots and are wasting people's time.

I hardly ever talk in class because of my speech. So when I ask a question, it's not about something trivial.

Don't stop asking questions ... you have a right to do it. If he's a true douche, contact the administration to try to get into another class.

i knew a guy that used one of those feedback devices and it really helped him. he was able to give public speeches and everything. it pretty much cured his stuttering. maybe you can check out using one of those.

I always encourage students to ask questions. I sometimes even bribe them with treats or prizes. It is very hard, as a professor, to get students to interact - I have a difficult time at it. I'm sorry to hear about what happened, I would never allow something like that to happen. If I get a question that is not relevant to the rest of the class, I usually ask the student to see me after class. Only one time was I 'pissed' at a student who asked a question - it was on a topic that was covered in the previous day's class, and this student is notorious for skipping class, and was not present when I spent 1/2 and hour on it. I should have just asked him to see me after class...

Or it could be that a few students in the class didn't want you to feel bad and disliked the professor.

Usually questions in-class aren't welcome unless it's correcting a professor's mistake. Save your questions for office hours. And no, you do not have the right to delay everyone else's learning; they paid the same tuition as you. Office hours is question-time, lecture is listen-time.
