I just noticed my permanent marker says it is non-toxic. And finger paints also say they're non-toxic. Everything is "safe" now. WTF?

I recall elementary school art class in the 70's: the permanent markers made your eyes tear, and you didn't want to keep finger paints in contact with skin for more than 10 minutes. We also used aerosol cans of spray paint and lacquer on anything and everything we made. We all got a nice buzz off the fumes, but nobody got sick. We'd always snort the pile of dittos as they got passed around...mmmmm.

Who had to spoil all the fun?

yeah, we are getting farther and farther from survial of the fittest. Parents don't even need to watch their childer anymore, cause everything is child proof! Come on, getting hurt/sick makes you stronger. The next generation is going to consist of wimps. :p

Actually, a few of us got to do duplication jobs for this lazy teacher in 5th grade. He'd send a few of us "responsible kids" to the ditto room with the master and we'd run the machine. We'd get downwind from the drum and get a nice rush. He got busted when the principal came in and asked us what the hell we were doing running the ditto machine.

BTW: those machines had no guards, so you could easily jam your hand under the drum. Also lots of paper cutters, hole punchers, etc...OSHA would have a fit.

It was a duplication machine used for tests. The stuff smelled great. Whenever the teachers used to pass out tests, everyone smelled the chemicals on the paper. It was in one of the movies, maybe "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", where everyone smelled the test paper as soon as it hit their desks.

I forget the exact name of the machine, but the ink was kind of purple. Damn, it smelled good.
