I think eMachines did that through Best Buy... That was what started the whole rebate revolution. I wish I could go back in time and kill whoever invented that.

My grandmother did it back in 99. She only uses the internet for email and some research so broadband would be useless to her. Her contract has expired yet she still continues to pay for the dialup since broadband cost is not justified.Originally posted by: spanky
just wondering if u guys know anyone who did that, and if they are still suffering thru the contract? or did those isp's (like msn or aol) allow for some kind of upgrade to broadband?

What's so bad about the touchpad? I love the tap thing.
It was not eMachines. The entire $400 rebate thing was started by signing a three year contract to Prodigy.net ISP which no longer exists. Eventually the deal was shifted towards MSN and the rebate could be applied to the purchase of any item in the store as long as you signed that three year contract.Originally posted by: edro13

The rebate applied to any instore product. eMachines quickly gained popularity though because they were always advertised as free after rebate or $100 after rebate.Originally posted by: fumbduck

It was when buying an eMachines computer though...
I don't think Prodigy.net or MSN make retail computers, I could be wrong.
