Brooklyn prosecutors clear local ACORN office

An investigation finds James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles edited their tape to make ACORN look worse

By Mike Madden

WASHINGTON -- A four-month investigation by the Brooklyn district attorney found no evidence that the local ACORN office had engaged in any criminal conduct, despite the hype conservative media gave to tapes of a fake prostitute asking for help from the organization.

"They edited the tape to meet their agenda," a law enforcement source told the New York Daily News, which reported the investigation's results on Monday.

The Brooklyn office was one of several ACORN sites visited by James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles for their hidden camera report that, they claimed, "proved" the organization was helping prostitutes and pimps engage in child sex slavery. (Though Breitbart seems to like pretending otherwise, there was no actual prostitution involved.) But as the decision by prosecutors not to file any charges underscores, the only thing O'Keefe really proved is that ACORN employed some people who were easily duped into playing along with his stunt.

Breitbart, meanwhile, has refused to release the full videotapes of any of the ACORN visits. He says his critics may not "have the stomach to deal with" what's on the tapes. But if Brooklyn authorities are any guide, there may not be all that much there, anyway.
LOL... remember when Fox News anchors were applauding these two for going "undercover" to uncover what is ACORN. LOL

Of course, I expect no one will be fired Dan Rather-style either for reporting "the news".

An anonymous "source" re-quoted in a liberal opinion piece posted on a liberal website.

Wasn't this Salon piece the topic of a previous thread?

Yawn. :p

That, and just because there is not enough for criminal charges against an organization doesn't mean nothing was done wrong.....

Yawn indeed.

Hopefully someone else will do another sting to make sure the cancer known as acorn doesn't worm it's way back into taking our tax dollars.

To be clear, even Breitbart is trying to distance himself from the filmmaker now, as it's been exposed how dishonest the film was, filled with editing of things like the guy pretending the ridiculous 'pimp' outfits had been worn at ACORN, when it had not - bits were filmed in it and spliced into the film for later viewers to be misled.

The reason of course the 'complete' film won't be released isn't his concern over stomachs, but the further discrediting of the filmaker, and him for publishing something to deceitful.

So far, the result has been the misleading of the public, leading to the scareof Congress to pass an unconstitutional bill since overturned against ACORN, who has helped democracy.

Let's have the original tape stop being withheld.

If Breitbart has such damning proof, then they should release it...

Since the claims of laws being broken are displayed in the full video, why would they want to cover it up...

\of course, the answer why is clear...
\\ah, republicans and their stupid need for rage..

I really don't get the poetic or pcspeak reference that justifiable outrage needs to have a political/Republican Party exclusivity to it.

Sure, ACORN is completely a Democrat Party organization, but the organized criminality of ACORN should outrage all whose rights have been violated by them and everyone else for their manifest institutional disregard for law and morality.

I fully agree that the unedited videos would be helpful to see the full extent of the malfeasance.

Understandably, as these tapes can run for an extended period, the presentation of an "edited" version that, however, likely does contain and accurately represents the essence of the discussions that occurred was a presentability decision.

I've viewed most of them in the entirety and they are presented with very few breaks, some run 15 minutes plus without interruptions of any kind. If the legal proceedings permit it, they should be made available in their entirety at this point.

If you have the patience to watch these home video quality recordings, do so and avoid the spin that some seemed intent on delivering.

Sorry to quote myself, but even so - as loathsome as I find Moore, I can't see comparing him to a law breaker....

Are you referring to the indictments and convictions of ACORN staff or the charged but not tried nor convicted (innocent till proven guilty???) James O'Keefe?

Well, as easy as that is to type, what isn't easy is going into the details of why you feel that way....

So, why do you feel that way?

No walls of text readily available for the subject at hand, the Doctor is out... will be back with cut and paste opinion very soon.

So far, allegations of Acorn's wrongdoing by the film maker kinda remind me of Saddam's WMD, and Breitbart's refusal to air the full tapes of the stonewalling in the Plame investigation...

No real similarities, of course... couldn't be just an encore of the same old song and dance... the one where their fans only remember the big splash, not the denouement afterwards, kinda like the Swiftliars...

At least nobody died, and it hasn't cost us billions, and I doubt it'll crash the economy like cutting red tape for self regulated banking to stuff the GSE's full of mortgage fraud...

Yeah, I believe they were trying to wiretap the Congresswoman's office.
Supposedly they had no wiretapping equipment and to my knowledge they have not been charged with wiretapping. Nice though that you have a problem with O'Keefe doing whatever he was doing to the phones but not a problem with ACORN getting tax money and advising people how to import underage girls to be prostitutes without getting caught.

You don't understand the difference between holding an indivdual accountable for the individual's actions - which, by the way, had no entapment - and smearing an organization for a handful of misguided people who tried to help people - which, by the way, they did not initiate but were entrapped, and who are terminated from the organization.

By your bad logic, the entire Republic Party is an organization that 'gets money for donors for taking bribes', since a handful of its leader - much less registered voters - have dont that.
