Watch some of the clips from these guys' videos. Several of these were used to make up the "sniping with .50 BMG in Afghanistan" video.

They were all varmint hunting clips.

i think that has already been established, at the tiem those videos came out...

Why would they use a .50 to take out infantry anyway

Reminds me of a few videos I saw the other day. Some US soldiers flashbanged a Shepard and his sheep by the side of the road.

Then these other guys were bitching about not being able to use DEADLY FORCE on some KIDS who were throwing rocks at their cars.

Ask the Canadian sniper team.

50 cal = 1 hit and you're most likely dead. Doesn't mater where it hit you, you're either dismembered or dead. And that's just with standard rounds. Put some explosive ammo in there and you're dead regardless.

Also, the latest rifles can penetrate the armor of some APCS and light vehicles, not to mention cinder blocks and barriers. Say you've got a sniper behind a cinder block wall, and all you can see is his head. Now you can just aim for the wall where his COM will be.

if you can see his head, why not shoot his head?

But more important to the Canadians are the gestures from their American brethren who - while nearly killing them several times over with "friendly fire" - owe many lives to their shooting skills.

Yeah I guess I can see the benefits of .50, but I still think it's kind of overkill...

The .50 was originally made for the Marine Corp as a sniper weapon.

Harder to hit, takes more time to aim. In a serious firefight (assuming the sniper has support) the goal is to shoot quickly, kill quickly, and move on.
