And what was that town in Ohio Car and Driver did an article about some years ago? It was near Cleveland and about 200ft. of Interstate went thru the city limits and they'd have their rent-a-cop parked in that section pulling people over left and right.

Wow, that place has been a speed trap since at least the 1960s, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back to the 1940s.

Do you flash your lights to warn other motorists of cops? Boone 03/16/2003 4:09 PM

Of course! And if I see a robbery/rape/murder in progress I always stand on the lookout for them and give them a ride to help them escape! Breaking the law is cool, and we should help eachother do it as often as possible!

My Goodness, I have seen the light. All these years of speeding, I've been no better than the scumbags you've just compared me too. Well, time to go to the bank, rob the vault, murder the security guard, and rape the teller

Why not, I'm already on that level by going ten miles over the speed limit.......aren't I

No, but what you are saying is that small crimes are good, and we should help eachother to not get caught. Why do you refuse to follow laws you don't like, but think others should follow laws they don't like because you think they are good?

I've seen enough deaths by people speeding and accidently hitting someone because they couldn't move out of the way fast enough, but I guess that is an accident which should not be punished rather than murder eh?
You also going to make excuses for our illustrious Linndale Police Department?

Linndale! That's it! Car and Driver has written of them in the past.

Nothing wrong with about 5-10mph over the limit...speed limits are arbitrarily set anyway. They should be at what the 85th percentile of drivers are traveling at. Well...with a few exceptions...like, say, a 4-lane divided road that passes thru a heavily residential area with schools, too.

In the case of Waldo, even AAA (an INSURANCE company) marked Waldo and a neighboring town as a speed trap.

What makes some of these towns speed traps is the sudden 10MPH drop in speed limit for no apparant reason. In the case of Linndale, they didn't even have an onramp TO the highway they were policing. They had also had a "stop here" line an unusually long distance away from an intersection with a signal and had a cop hide behind a tree and write tickets to people who didn't stop at the right line.

Enforcing limits that make sense is one thing, but having stupid situations and enforcing those is another.

Actually, I read in last week's newspaper that they had lost access to the City of Columbus's criminal records. I didn't read the article, but it sure makes sense with this too.

Actually, I think that New Rome is indeed the city that Car & Driver wrote about...though from what I remember, it was only a few months ago. Maybe they did another article on Linsdale a year or so back?

As for speeding being a crime: bleh. Accidents are mainly caused by differences in speed, not an increase in speed itself. If the entire interstate is traveling at 85 in a 65, and there's one car in the far left lane doing 5 under, guess who's more of a hazard?

As such, I say abolish all speed limits during the day other than those in/around school zones, heavily congested downtown areas, and the like. But on highways...nationwide autobahn, baby.

It's not just that New Rhome was a speed trap -- there was rampant abuse of power by the police, corruption and theft galore, basically it was a little clan of crooks running a little village and stealing the profits of the scam. They did so for decades, it's about time they got their butts thrown in jail......

"they" did not go to jail, this law is simply an attempt at getting rid of this corrupt little band of crooks. Further investigations against several people involved in various scandals in New Rhome are pending.
