when you just called a company and a human actually tried to help you solve your problem? I just called Comcast and the automated system wouldnt even take my call...now I get to sit in line for their online customer care...I keep jumping from #345 to #378 in queue...

I would actually pay just to be able to talk to a human when I call a company.

I remember calling Gateway when we got our P166 MMX PC back in '97. The monitor had a pink tint, and within 10 minutes (INCLUDING hold time) we had a new monitor on the way.

I miss that.

I actually just got off the phone with a live person from HP. They are sending out a carrier right away to pick up my laptop so they can fix it.

You're right - and I guess I don't REALLY mind all that much. I've had my Dell for almost a year, and I've never had to call tech support once, and I've never had to return a component. I guess that if the products are top-notch, I can forgive a maze of computer menus for customer service.

Oh, they most certainly could provide better customer service. But we (the public) won't let them. We only buy from the lowest price seller, and that's what killed good service.

with internet access its not like I have a choice. If I want high speed access I have to go with Comcast...actually I signed up with @home 4 years ago and have been through 3 different ownership changes...its not like I chose the lowest bidder. I took my only option.

and dont they realize that the more time a person waits, the more time they have to get all worked up...I am seriously ready to cuss anyone that I end up talking to out...I think there is actually steam coming out of my ears right now

This is true. Try calling up Apple and see how they do, much better than bargain-basement brands.

Turn-over rate in those call centers is very high, mainly b/c the companies don't hire enough people and train them well enough.

I hate Claire at Sprint PCS. Whenever I dial *2 and get her, I always yell at her "I want to speak to a HUMAN!".

She always sounds disappointed when I say that to her. heheh

I thought it was because:

1) Their users are more intelligent and so don't have to call in with stupid questions.
2) There are just so few Apple users.

I make a point to be nice and polite to call center folks, even if they are rude and nasty. I've always gotten better results that way.

Oh yeah, and don't screw with AT&T's Frame Relay call center techs... they will leave your frame circuit down and laugh at you. Happened to a co-worker of mine when he got pissy at one once.

I saw this toy there just before my son turned 1 (he's 16 now) and when I went back to buy it, they were sold out. they had one fed-exed to my door from the west coast, free! (well.. I paid for the toy of course, but the shipping cost 10.00 more than it did). and another I called (tysons) and had them send me (free delivery) a pair of shoes for my daughter (same shoes she had, just the next size up), they came (reston), 2 left shoes.. called them, they'd sent the other pair (2 rights, I guess) to the other store (pentagon city) the night before, but one of the shoe department people went to the other store, got the shoe I needed, and brought it to my house. that day. it was amazing.

but.. I called dell friday, I had to push a few buttons and wait a couple minutes, but it wasn't more than 10 minutes I had a new hard drive on the way to me, it came this morning.. so I can't complain about that either.
