wel..probably no one remembers...but here's the link: linky

Found out yesterday that she's officially resigning from teaching at my school due to family illness/problems/whatever.

We didn't have class on tuesday b/c of veteran's day..but I'm sure she's known about this for at least a couple weeks now. She tells us yesterday..her last day. 4 weeks left in the semester and she's leaving. We're now going to get some stupid department chairperson who is probably going to end up failing all of us because we actually have to do real work now.

sigh...i know family comes first and all..but not when you have over 200 students counting on you to finish the course.

Bah..this is gonna suck.

OK, not to be a jerk, but in your original post you complained that there were too many canceled classes and you didn't feel that you were getting as much from the class as you would have liked. Now you are complaining that another professor is going to take over and you will have to "do real work now."

Am I missing something? 😕

It's for a pyschology class?

The only thing you need to know is that everybody comes from a dysfunctional family. That's it in a nutshell.

True, we're not getting as much from the class as we would like...but it's still pretty messed up to have your teacher changed four weeks before the end of the semester. We're used to the way she wants her papers written, we're used to her test formats. This new teacher is going to screw everything up. He's gonna be tougher and ESPECIALLY b/c she's screwing the department over too by leaving halfway through, they're not going to be too happy to take her place.

I can understand your concern about the replacement prof being resentful and taking it out on the class. I teach at a university and can tell you that, in my department at least, that wouldn't happen. While we may not (a) be happy with the prof who is leaving, (b) be prepared to teach that particular subject or (c) especially thrilled about the additional workload we would never punish the students. I'm sure the teaching style and expectations will be different, but I would also venture to say that allowances will be made.

Everyone has a personal life and sometimes things happen that we cannot control and sometimes we deal with things in a less than optimal way. I'm sure your professor isn't happy either about having to leave in the middle of the term. Unfortunately, it sounds like she let her personal problems interfere with class from day one and this has put everyone in a bad spot. Good luck with the remainder of the class, I'm sure things will work out for you (and hopefully for your prof as well).
